Our Training Collar options

Uniquely we offer vibrate, spray and static collars, while others tend to use static shock collars exclusively.  These collars are chosen and adjusted specifically to each dog based on their temperament and any previous e-collar training (*see side bar).

  • Spray collars:  To not interfere with the scent of the rattlesnakes, we use unscented canned air.  These collars are surprisingly effective!  Spray collars are also good for dogs that are 'collar wise’ or have been traumatized by shock collar training in the past.

  • Vibrating collars: These work like your cell phone vibrate feature.  This option works well for very sensitive dogs (or owners!) and for very young or old dogs.

  • Static (shock) collar: Similar to a T.E.N.S. unit used by chiropractors.  It causes a momentary muscle contraction, much like a cramp or a pinch, between the two contact points which can be startling and uncomfortable to the dog.  There is a dimmer switch type dial on the remote control to control the intensity.

Conditioned Response

*Do you use a remote training collar at home?  If your dog already has a specific conditioned response with a remote collar, such as 'come or heel' we don't want to use that same type of collar on the course.

For example, if your dog is trained to come to you upon feeling a vibration from their collar, we don't want to confuse the dog and use that same vibration sensation on the course.

Therefore we would use a different collar such as a spray collar for their training.

Both vibrate and/or spray collars work well on dogs who are electric collar trained for conditioned responses (ie: obedience: ‘Come’ or ‘Heel’) or invisible fence boundary training.
